Clarksburg Compost

Compost Department

Clarksburg's Compost Department is department of Public Works and is responsible for:

  • Operation of Compost Center
  • Coordination of weekly yard waste pick-up (March 1 to November 30)
  • Tree trimming and removal for the City
  • Coordination of Spring and Fall clean-ups and leaf pick-ups (dates determined each year)
  • Recycling of Christmas trees at no charge (through the second Friday of January)

Location: 2400 N 12th St, Clarksburg, WV 26301
Season: Opens in April and closes in January
Hours: 8:00AM - 2:30PM (Mo, Tu, Th, Fr - closed Wednesday & weekends)

The Compost Center is operated by the City of Clarksburg's Public Works Department and accepts yard waste from residents, haulers and contractors.

Yard waste consists of vegetative or organic material produced from the care and maintenance of landscaped areas, gardens, and lawns. The material includes grass, leaves, weeds, brush, flowers, plants, pruned trees branches, garden residue, and Christmas trees.

Yard waste is collected throughout the neighborhoods during residents regularly scheduled recycling collection day. During the holiday season, the Yard Waste Compost Center also accepts Christmas Trees through the second Friday of January.

Residents may dispose of their yard waste at the Yard Waste Compost Center in the North View section of town. The entrance is located at Pearlman Avenue and North Twelfth Street. The Yard Waste Compost Center is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from

The Yard Waste Compost Center also has Compost material for purchase by bulk or by bag, and arrangements can be made for compost delivery. The City of Clarksburg encourages its residents to utilize this service provided by the City. This service eliminates yard waste from being deposited in Sanitary Landfills.
