2023 Election

The 2023 Clarksburg City Council & Clarksburg Water Board Election was held on June 6, 2023

Important Dates:

  • Mar. 01 - Mar. 15 - Filing period for candidates for election of office of Clarksburg City Council & Clarksburg Water Board
  • Mar. 29 - Last day to withdraw and not have name appear on the ballot
  • Mar. 30 - Drawing for ballot positions (9:00 AM Council Chambers. Drawing is open to the public)
  • Apr. 18 - Write-in candidate filing deadline
  • Apr. 21 - May 31 - Period for absentee voting by mail
  • May 16 - Voter registration deadline (Voter Registration Office located in Harrison County Courthouse)
  • May 24 - Jun. 03 - Period for Early Voting in person (City Clerk's office 2nd floor of City Hall on normal business hours Monday - Friday 8AM - 4PM. City Clerk's office will additionally be open on Saturday, May 27 from 9AM - 5PM and Saturday, June 03 from 9AM to 5PM to allow for early voting)

June 06 - Election Day - Polls open at 6:30 AM and close at 7:30 PM

Amendment to the City Charter

Amendment No. 1: Providing for a one-year-term for certain City Council seats and a three-year term for Water Board seats to finalize the switch from odd-year elections to even-year elections.

Summary of Amendment: The Amendment provides for and resolves the mechanism to switch City elections from odd-year to even-year elections by providing a single shortened term for certain City Council seats and a shortened single three-year term for Water Board Seats.

Under the Amendment, the three seats for City Council shall be elected for a one-year term. In May 2024, those three seats will be up for election for four-year terms and then each for four years thereafter.

Under the Amendment, the seat for the Water Board shall be elected for a three-year term. In May 2026, that seat will be up for election for a four-year term and then each four years thereafter. The two seats currently on the Water Board shall be shortened from four-year to three-year terms. In May 2024, those two seats will be up for election for four-year terms and then each four years thereafter.

INSTRUCTIONS TO VOTERS: Those favoring the AMENDMENT, place an “X” in the square before “FOR”; those against such AMENDMENT, place an “X” in the square before “AGAINST”.
