City of Clarksburg Hires John Whitmore as Director of Economic Development
CLARKSBURG, WV – City Manager Harry R. Faulk has appointed John Whitmore as Director of Economic Development effective June 1, 2021. Mr. Whitmore comes to Clarksburg from the role of City Planner with the City of Morgantown. He previously served with the City of Parkersburg as the City Planner. Mr. Whitmore’s strengths include land reuse and preservation and downtown design, along with administration and assistance of transportation, housing, and infrastructure development grants.
“I am confident that John Whitmore – with his knowledge of planning and policy practices – is the ideal person to grow our City for future development and financial stability by retaining current businesses and attracting developers,” said City Manager Harry Faulk. “This continues our practice of moving the City forward by bringing in well qualified professionals that are willing to dedicate their time to serve the residents of Clarksburg.”
Mr. Whitmore brings with him nearly 16 years of planning experience. He has a B.A. in Public and Urban Affairs and a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning.
“I am excited to be joining the City of Clarksburg team and look forward to meeting and working with everyone. My goal within six months is assess the City of Clarksburg and the region to begin exploring creative ways to market the City for developers and retain current business,” said John Whitmore. His start date will be June 1, 2021.
