City of Clarksburg Executes Contracts for Asbestos Abatement and Demolition of 15 Structures

A contract signing and pre-construction meeting took place this morning, August 4th 2016 in the City Manager’s Conference room for the asbestos abatement and demolition of fifteen (15) structures within the City of Clarksburg. 

In attendance for the meeting from the City of Clarksburg were Assistant City Manager Anthony Bellotte, Finance Director Frank Ferrari, Finance Director Kim Karakiozis and MS4 Director Adam Barberio.  The contracts were executed by Assistant City Manager Anthony Bellotte and attested by Finance Director Frank Ferrari.  Representatives from Stantec Engineering, Reclaim Company, LLC and Empire Builders, Inc. were also present.

The 15 total structures scheduled to be demolished were separated by three (3) contracts: 

Contract 1 includes:  458 Lee Avenue, 513 Lee Avenue, 407 Chestnut Street, 505 Wilson Street and 105 Grove Avenue.

Contract 2 includes:  1300 North 13th Street, 1512 WV Avenue, 1015 North 14th Street and 217 Waldeck Street. 

Contract 3 includes:  1304 West Pike Street, 1405 West Pike Street, 130 Milford Street, 110 Gandy Street, 116 Dodge Court and 118 Dodge Court.

Contract 1 was awarded to Reclaim Company, LLC in the amount of $55,500.  Contract 2 was also awarded to Reclaim Company, LLC in the amount of $31,750.  Contract 3 was awarded to Empire Builders, Inc. in the amount of $70,500.

MS4 Director Adam Barberio stated, “We are excited to see this project begin, it has been a longstanding goal of the City to rid blighted properties from within the communities.”

Assistant City Manager Anthony Bellotte stated, “I feel this is another great opportunity for the City of Clarksburg to assist the residents with the continuance of our residential demolition program.”

Funding for the projects will be expended from the City’s TIF (Tax Incremental Financing) Funds, as well as the City’s Stabilization Fund.

Once all state and local notification are submitted, the contractors will begin demolition.  Each contract has a sixty (60) calendar day completion timeline. 

A pre-bid construction meeting was held July 13, 2016 and the bid opening took place July 20, 2016.  Clarksburg City Council unanimously approved the bids at their July 21, 2016 Council Meeting.
