Clarksburg Fire Department to Host “Fire Ops 101” Event

Clarksburg, WV- The Clarksburg Firefighters IAFF Local 89 will host a program for elected officials and community leaders known as FIRE OPS 101.  This daylong program includes hands on fire fighting and rescue operations under controlled supervision of Clarksburg Fire Department Local 89 members. Elected officials and community leaders will learn exactly how challenging it is to keep our community safe.

This program will demonstrate many aspects of fire and emergency medical service operations, from suiting up in the proper protective gear to putting out fires. Each of the four scenarios will give participants the opportunity to do what firefighters face on a day-to-day basis. Each participant will learn how to use self-contained breathing apparatus, essential to breathing in heavy smoke. Participants will also learn to battle a live fire and be given instruction on how to respond to anticipated events of fire behavior such as flashover.

FIRE OPS 101 is Friday, October 14th, from 6pm-8pm at Northview Fire Station on Ohio Avenue in Clarksburg. At this time, participants will be fitted for turnout gear, wear an SCBA (air mask) and familiarize themselves with it and be briefed on different safety aspects for the following day. FIRE OPS 101 hands on is Saturday, October 15th, from 8am-1pm. From 8am-9am participants and Local 89 members will be at Northview Station. From roughly 9am-1pm the hands on scenarios will be at the United Technical Center at the firefighting training tower.

Media outlets are invited to come out to this great event.
