The City of Clarksburg has been remediating 10 road slip projects due to embankment failures throughout the City of Clarksburg. There are 7 active or completed projects and 3 projects that are being monitored throughout the 2018-2019 winter season.
The Request For Proposals for engineering services on all slips went out April 13, 2018 and all proposals were due by April 30, 2018. All of the Engineers who provided proposals were interviewed the week of May 10, 2018 by the City Administration. Each Engineering Firm that was interviewed was assigned 2 slip remediation projects. Clarksburg City Council approved Ascent Consulting and Engineering at their regularly scheduled Council meeting held on May 17, 2018, while all other project Engineers were approved during Council’s meeting on June 7, 2018. Project Engineers that were approved at the June, 7 2018 Council meeting were: Hornor Brothers Engineers, Terradon Corporation, Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc., The Thrasher Group, and Ascent Consulting and Engineering.
The Lower Winding Way Slip Remediation Project was advertised for competitive bid in August 2018. A pre-bid meeting was then held in the City Manager’s conference room on September 5, 2018. A pre-bid meeting allows contractors who have taken interest in a project to review the scope of the project with both city officials and Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc., the Engineer on the project. A bid opening was then held September 18, 2018 where 1 bid was received. Rock Forge Bridge Company was awarded the bid by City Council on September 20, 2018. On September 28, 2018 a contract signing took place, and a Notice to Proceed was issued. Construction consisted of installing approximately 60 linear feet of pile and lagging wall as well as earthwork associated with repair to the slip along Lower Winding Way. The Lower Winding Way Slip Remediation Project was completed in December of 2018. The total cost of the project, including engineering, was $169,993.88.
