The Clarksburg Area Model Railroad Club (CAMRC) was formed in November of 2003. The group was formed after current members realized it’s more fun to work as a group towards a hobby than to work alone. The CAMRC Clubhouse is located in the Friedlander building at the corner of Main Street and Fourth Street in Clarksburg. The clubhouse is open to the public Tuesdays and Saturdays from 11:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. The CAMRC is a learning opportunity for the community’s youth and they are open for school visits and other local events. The Club currently has approximately 35 members and is always accepting new members for a yearly membership fee. The club president, Bill Donini, encourages its members and the public to come and visit the clubhouse, and be involved in club activities.
Those who visit the clubhouse will have the opportunity to learn how layouts are built, scenery is created and how track is set. Visitors can spend time modeling and running trains at the clubhouse while seeing how O,HO, S, N, and Z scale layouts are created. There are currently five different layouts that the CAMRC uses, HO scale permanent layout, traveling HO scale layout, traveling N Scale layout, Z scale layout, and O Scale permanent layout. The CAMRC’s HO Scale layout is still under construction, but is operable. There are 4 loops that will accommodate multiple trains. CAMRC uses MRC Dcc controls for operation, which allows various trains to be controlled on the same layout simultaneously. Their HO scale traveling layout consists of 3 main tracks of which 2 are dc controlled and 1 is dcc controlled. CAMRC’s N scale traveling layout is 4’x8’ with the ability to run multiple trains.
The Clarksburg Area Model Railroad Club has built relationships with other clubs in the NCWV region and surrounding states. Having these relationships gives the club the advantage to buy and sell train and track parts, while seeing what other clubs are involved in. The club is always accepting any donations of items related to model trains, and they constantly host raffles to assist fund their layouts and organization. The club takes their traveling layouts to local public places such as malls and libraries for the public’s enjoyment, and the Club is always open during uptown Clarksburg’s events.
