WYK Associates, Inc

WYK Associates, Inc. and its predecessors have played a vital role in shaping the cityscapes of West Virginia's communities for over a century. It all started when Edward J. Wood, Architect, opened his architectural practice in Clarksburg in September of 1900.  Over the years the firm has designed many landmark buildings throughout the region such as the former Stonewall Jackson Hotel, Clarksburg's Central Fire Station, the Bridgeport Public Safety Building, Jackson Square and most recently the Renovations and Additions to the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center.

The firm has handled projects large and small, designing a variety of project types from simple garage additions in the 1920's when the automobile was becoming a household commodity to churches, fire stations, schools, libraries, offices, hospitals and healthcare facilities as well as scores of historic restoration and renovation projects.

WYK Associates, Inc. continues to be a full service architectural and planning firm. The company, then and now, provides excellent service to its clientele by finding the critical aspects of each project and turning those into opportunity. WYK creates a place that fits the needs of the user, and the owners’ budget, while providing an aesthetically pleasing and "timeless design" with environmentally conscience building solutions. The past and present owners and employees have made sure their success always contributes to their city, county and entire region.

Decades of knowledge are drawn from and utilized at WYK, in architectural design and the experience in projects ranging from a few thousand to multi-million USD to develop a vision into a reality. Collaboration between the architectural lead, project management, and network of contractors merit a maximum quality outcome within schedule and budget. The client’s requirements for quality, value and service are the force behind each decision. WYK stands out from their one-stop competitors by combining their specialization in architecture with a strong network of consultants with solid relationships.  Using 3D design, WYK can visualize your project and walk through your future building, on-screen. WYK Associates Inc., also utilizes the first in the state architectural color 3D printing, making the design tangible. Additionally, WYK has LEED Accredited Professionals.  This knowledge and experience is incorporated in our designs, regardless if LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) and certification is being sought after or not.

James Swiger, AIA, current President & Owner, has been very involved in the community by volunteering and serving on many professional and non-profit boards at both the county and state levels since he re-joined the team at WYK in 2005.  He worked earlier in his career at WYK in the mid 1990's after graduating college from the University of Tennessee.  He then went on to work at two other firms before settling back to his architectural roots at WYK in Harrison County.  "I am very honored and blessed to be able to work in my home county" says Swiger.  "I must thank Bill Yoke, Jr. for this opportunity.  As he was approaching retirement from WYK, he wanted the legacy of the firm to continue.  He carried the torch for many years after he received it from his former partner and predecessors of Carleton Wood, Jr., Bill Grant and Whalen King”, says Swiger.  We have a strong, rich heritage and I am proud to be a part of the company's storied history and one day will pass it off to the next generation to keep the flame alive."

WYK Associates Inc. has been involved on countless design projects across the region, and has won numerous awards for their excellence in Architectural Design, Planning and 3D Printing.  WYK Associates Inc. is located at 205 Washington Avenue, Clarksburg and more information can be found by visiting
