The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) held a special meeting on Thursday, November 1, 2018 to recognize and honor former URA Counsel Jim Harris for his 30 plus years of service with the URA.
URA Chairman Anthony Secret expressed his gratitude to Mr. Harris by saying, “ I felt Jim always had the URA’s best interest, and would guide the URA in the direction of the right thing to do, even if it was not the most popular, it was still always right.”
“It has been a privilege to act as Counsel for the URA, the URA plays a significant role that benefits the city, and I would not have been able to play my role without the cooperation from the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, former Finance Director, Current Finance Director, and the head of Code Enforcement,” conveyed former URA Counsel Jim Harris. “It was nice to work with people who knew their job, and I always looked forward to coming to the URA meetings”, Harris continued.
City Manager Martin Howe said, “What a pleasure and honor it has been to work with Mr. Harris.”
Applicants to fill Mr.Harris’s role will be interviewed and a recommendation will be brought to the next scheduled Urban Renewal Authority’s meeting for considerations.
The URA also conducted other regular business at its meeting, which included approving a Façade for Drs. Ortiz and Heal Ortiz, Inc. in the amount of $2,000. As well as passing a resolution for authorizing the URA to cater into a loan agreement with MVB Bank for an amount of $400,000, which is contingent upon Council approving the loan as the guarantor, to be used to continue the demolition program.
