Mayor’s Youth Council 2013 - 2014

Mayors Youth Council 2013-2014

The Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC), which is made up of seventy-eight (78) high school students from Clarksburg area schools, represents the youthful voice of our community.  These members work diligently together in making Clarksburg a better place to live.  The Youth Council participates in several service projects and is given an opportunity to receive hands-on learning experiences from the various departments within the City of Clarksburg.

Deck the City Hall Building

Yesterday, the MYC met to “Deck the City Hall Building" with lights, decorations, and joy. The festivities created a winter-wonderland within the offices that serve the community of Clarksburg. “We love Christmas,” stated Pei Pei Rexroad and Rachelle Hawkins, students who attend Notre Dame High School. “It is great that we can give back to our community and that we have the opportunity to help. Although we are giving time during our Thanksgiving break, we are receiving so much more.” Mayor, Catherine Goings stated, “It’s so refreshing to see today’s youth filled with the spirit of Christmas. In spending time during their Thanksgiving break to decorate City Hall, the Council has shown me that they are devoted to making a positive impact in the community.”

Spreading Holiday Cheer

The 2013-14 Clarksburg Mayor’s Youth Council will be decorating doors and spreading holiday cheer to the residents at the VA Nursing Home on Monday, December 2nd at 6 p.m. This will be the second year that the MYC has participated in their “Adopt-a-Door” program wherein the MYC decorates the residents’ doors in festive wrappings and holiday decorations. This project is an opportunity to say “thank you” to our community veterans, share a smile and bestow good wishes for those that have done so much to impact our lives.

Working With the City

City Clerk and MYC Assistant, Annette Wright stated, “It is truly an honor and privilege to be an administrator of such a wonderful group of student leaders. In working with them I have come to understand that they are not just a part of our future but true representatives of our present. It is great to know that there are such wonderful youth within the City of Clarksburg.”
